Dangerously Daydreaming

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible." ~ T. E. Lawrence

First Camping Trip of the Season!

That’s right, J and I went camping this last weekend and it feels like an official kick off to our belated Washington summer!  We headed over the Cascade Range on Friday and into the bucolic scenery of Winthrop for softball tournament.

As soon as we came down from the mountain pass the weather was warmer and drier.  We raced past deer bounding across rolling hills and soon were pulling into the town of Winthrop.  The boardwalk streets and storefronts are reminiscent of the Old West, more like the backdrop of a spaghetti western film.

We had a spot reserved at a campground just a 5 minute walk from town where J’s teammates and their families were also camping out.  It made for a cozy gathering and each new arrival was greeted with excited waving and imploring to “camp next to us!”

I again failed to take pics of the gourmet camp food I cooked up for us this weekend but it was fantastic!  I’ll be sharing a recipe tomorrow though.  My almost famous gourmet burgers made up dinner on day one.  And for day two we grilled up some pollo asado taco deliciousness along with my guacamole.  We also made some veggie scrambles to share for breakfast one day.  I guess that in the past, when J would go “man camping” with his guy friends it consisted of hot dogs, beer, and whatever they managed to hunt or fish.  He admitted to me yesterday that camping with a girl takes up a lot more room but is well-worth it since he gets to eat so much better.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons were spent at the ball field under the wonderful sun and 85 degrees of happiness!  The guys won all of their games AND the championship!!  There were some great plays out there, it was so much fun to watch and cheer them on.  Us softball girls all get to watch together and get in some fun social time along with yummy cocktails so that’s an added bonus.

J and I got to spend time with his teammates and their families quite a bit this weekend.  I’m getting to know everyone a lot better and late nights by the campfire are always fun.  But my favorite part was getting to wander into town, just J and I.  A little relaxation and mini-date squeezed into the fun busyness.

I wasn’t ready to leave the sunshine yesterday, I admit it.  But good things do come to an end…at least until the next adventure!

What did you do during the weekend??

Such a guy comment, right? His idea of “man camping” sounds kind of gross to me… I’ll pack light, but by golly we will eat good! 😉

Love, love, LOVE it! Especially that last photo. Phew, totally takes me breath away. After Seattle, we had five days of camping too – went through the gamut weather-wise, but it was fantastic!

So glad to hear you had a ball. Love your photos, love to see the sun!
