Dangerously Daydreaming

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible." ~ T. E. Lawrence

Photo Fridays: A Strategic View

Once each year I try to visit my family in Alaska. My youngest brother and I always squeeze in as many hiking trips as possibly, many of them to old WWII outposts left behind from when the island had an Army and Navy base. Today’s photo is a shot of my brother looking out over Unalaska Bay with the Bering Sea beyond. The concrete-formed circle in the foreground is a WWII antiaircraft gun track. The guns have long been removed but tracks just like this one can be found in strategic spots all over the island and they always afford a phenomenal view.

Happy Friday to you all!

That brother of mine inspires me! He makes for a wonderful subject and is so patient to let me snap shots of him. 🙂

Beautiful, Audrey! I love me some Alaska. I know we talked about it before but, as a reminder, I lived in Ketchikan. Which I remember you saying is where your dad once lived? I would love to go back and see more of it. Did you just get back from this trip with your brother?

Yes I remember! I was thinking about that the other day and how I’d love to see Ketchikan for myself. 🙂 My dad worked there seasonally for several years. How long since you’ve been away? No, I haven’t been able to make it back for a trip this year yet. This photo was taken over two years ago… Hoping to get back to visit my family soon! Do you have any return trips planned?

Someday I’ll go back for sure. It was my favorite place to live next to where I live now. I miss the people, terrain and fresh seafood! Nothing like it. I haven’t been there since I left in 1996. 😦 I actually bought the first two seasons of Northern Exposure on DVD just so I could feel close to Ketchikan. It completely reminds me of Ketchikan!
