Dangerously Daydreaming

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible." ~ T. E. Lawrence

Twenty-Seven Pearls

I’ve always been a pearl girl. From the day my dad came home with a delicate strand of freshwater pearls to give his seven-year old daughter, I’ve preferred pearls over diamonds. Twenty years later and I still love them. And I also love the term “pearls of wisdom”. It harkens to something precious – lessons learned occasionally the hard way, sometimes gleaned from the insight of others, and often still in the process of being discovered. As I turn twenty-seven years old today I came up with twenty-seven pearls that I wanted to share.

  1. Don’t regret those laugh lines. They were earned!
  2. Sometimes the best thing for a bad day is a good sweat sesh – pound that pavement, spin those pedals, push into that yoga mat.
  3. Growing up isn’t about “finding yourself”. You’re not lost. Be you, bravely and unashamedly you, and be the best possible version.
  4. Travel.
  5. If there are two ways to interpret something, choose the positive.
  6. Read
  7. The best criteria for making tough¬†decisions:¬†“Is it loving?” and “Is it wise?”
  8. Pick your battles.
  9. Strive to positively impact the lives of those around you each day.
  10. Use it or lose it – take care of that body and keep moving!
  11. You are wonderfully made – embrace your shape, your size, everything that makes you beautifully and uniquely you.
  12. Know your inner voice: Learn to silence that internal critic when it’s being unkind and when to hear the persistent whisper of intuition.
  13. Set goals for yourself, both long term and short term.
  14. Stand up for those who are weaker than you, always.
  15. Eat food that tastes good and makes you feel good.
  16. Volunteer – you get back so much more than you could ever give.
  17. Always keep learning, try a new hobby/skill.
  18. Give grace to others, you don’t know their story.
  19. Strive for simplicity, cluttering your life with stuff makes it hard to have room for the important things and people.
  20. Be brave, and know that fear is not weakness.
  21. Someone else always has a brighter light, shine yours anyway.
  22. Never buy cheap shoes, especially high heels
  23. Laugh! Laugh at yourself, laugh with others.
  24. It’s better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.
  25. Don’t just dream it, do it.
  26. Confidence, joy, and kindness are your best accessories.
  27. Love is a choice. Choose love.

Any pearls of wisdom that you guys have picked up over the years?

I love this so much! Thank you for sharing. The only pearl I would add is to celebrate the mundane, the ordinary, the every-day. Celebrate everything. Love you!! Happy Wonderful Birthday.

Love this! Thanks for sharing your birthday pearls! I don’t have any to add at the moment, except that through it all and in all things, I have learned to cling to the One in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Col. 2:3)

I really like #25 “don’t just dream it, do it” That’s a pearl I try to live by, too.
